ready, set, go!

As hard as it is to believe considering the weather, in just a few weeks it will be time to start some seeds for this year's garden.  So, last night I sorted the seeds I have, ordered the ones I don't and now I'm ready.

Bring on Spring!

This year we are going to grow:  celery, eggplant, parsnips, celeriac, radishes, carrots, spinach, parsley, romaine, escarole, mache, butter lettuce, zucchini, fava beans, hot peppers, sweet peppers, peas, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, butternut squash, tomatillos, cauliflower, rutabagas, kohlrabi, beets, arugula, leeks, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, fennel, dill, basil, cucumbers, soy beans, green beans, black beans, turnips, artichokes, kale, chickpeas, garlic, onions, potatoes, strawberries, blueberries and apples!

Can't wait!

  3. I bet you can grow pretty much anything you want in Austin, so pick stuff you like to eat. I'm always amazed at how much better fresh picked herbs taste- event things like parsley which I didn't used to think of as a useful herb, is delicious!

I would recommend avoiding cilantro though, it'll drive you crazy. As soon as it looks big enough to harvest a few leaves, it bolts, goes to seed and dies. It's a giant pain. I've given up on it entirely.

    good luck, and take photos!

  12. I'm in awe just of your plans! I'm not good with plants. Tried to grow a small one once but the Phoenix summer sun burned it all up. Those prints are fabulous.
