He was 96 and in ailing health so it certainly couldn't be thought of as unexpected and it would be hard to imagine a life more fully lived, but I am still really sad about the death of Studs Terkel, author, radio host and Chicago icon.
He was an actor until he was blacklisted in the 50's after he refused to give evidence against other activists. But he went on to have a radio show for 45 years and to write numerous books. He was funny and brilliant and one hell of an interviewer. You can listen to some of his interviews here.
