holi

I left college and went off to live in Nepal for awhile when I was 19. (It sounds far more rebellious and crazy than it really was.)  One of my favorite memories of my time there is of the Hindu festival of Holi.  It celebrates the end of winter and the start of spring and for days and days people throw brightly colored powder on each other.

I saw these and other wonderful photos of this year's festival here and it brought back memories so strong I could almost smell them.

I don't remember, but I imagine so. We didn't go out and participate too much, we mostly watched because it can get kind of crazy. but it was really beautiful and the kids in the neighborhood loved it.

I am convinced that every other culture in the world has much more fun celebrations than we have here in North America---and this is yet more proof! I would love to travel to Nepal--how brave you were to go on your own at the tender age of 19!

we should just steal the cool holidays. I'd love to throw colored powder on some people!
I don't know if I'd say I was brave, I may have just been dumb, but it worked out so well it doesn't matter. I had such a wonderful time and learned so much I think every 19 year old should be that kind of stupid.
