no news is good news

I am a total news junkie, it's a little bit pathetic. Ever since election day I have been thinking about abstaining from reading the news for a week or even a month to sort of reset my news clock and reteach myself that while knowing what is going on in the world is good, obsessing about, and obsessively checking on what is going on in the world is not.

This article from the New York Times about a fungus that is killing all the tomato plants in the northeast might have finally convinced me it's time to do it.
I'm going to have nightmares about blight crawling over the Adirondacks. (and I'm pretty sure blight doesn't crawl.)

I agree. I am on a semi-break from the news. Every now and then it is nice to take a breather and just cocoon into your own happiness. Sooner or later I come out, take in what I can handle, and hide again.

Isn't that sad?

(I'm not really a sad, pathetic person, I promise!)

not sad at all!
sounds healthy to me. It's just too easy to get consumed by things these days. It's important to have some perspective!

I am limiting my connections with TV and newspapers close to level zero during my months at the beach. It makes me more sane.

And I thought I was a nut for dreaming that my tomatoes never ripened. That's the stuff that nightmares are made of. That image alone gives me the heebie jeebies. Good luck.
