The Smithsonian has an exhibition of holiday cards made by artists from Alexander Calder to Philip Guston.
These cards were not designed, mass produced and sold in museum gift shops. They were handmade for friends and family and probably not meant to be seen by the public.
And looking at them I feel even more lame that I haven't made any for my friends and family this year. I've still got 17 days, right?

Really drawn towards the first card, very joyful and colorful, but I love the squirrel one too. I only managed to make 3 Christmas cards this year, so I guess I will have to settle for someone else's designs again. Way too many cards to get in the mail - 17 days! Wow!
so festive and pretty. I made my xmas cards one year. I think I lost the files though. Shame. They were quite good.
I LOVE THESE!! i have never been to the smithsonian, and i really hope to get there someday soon!

Oh, I love that last card. Something so deliciously warm and cozy about it. I've been so bad -- I haven't even had time to think about holiday cards this year.

lovely!!! There is something so wonderful and personal about homemade cards. Makes recieving them all the more special.
I love the 3rd card down. Makes me think of a scene from some old movie.
