cast iron

Even though we got every pot and pan you could imagine when we got married, some of my favorite pots and pans are the bright yellow Dansk Kobenstyle enamelware my parents got as wedding presents! My mom gave them to me when I moved into my first grown up apartment and I've used them ever since.

They are made differently than other enameled cookware, like Le Creuset, so they are much lighter weight, which has upsides (heat faster, easier to lift) and downsides (doesn't retain heat as well). The shapes are lovely and elegant, and the colors deep and rich.

A couple of weeks ago we were at a friend's house and saw his collection of pristine Dansk Kobenstyle enamelware in all sorts of beautiful colors I had no idea existed (hello, robins egg blue, I love you!). After getting over my embarrassment that our Dansk ware looks a little, um, well loved (we use them!) I became obsessed with getting more.

Hurray for ebay! (Please don't bid on the blue paella pan! I'm in love with it.)

Apart from the colors (which evoke the Greek Isles for me), my favorite part of these pots are the handles! I hope you win the paella pan, it's adorable :)

Yes! The Kobenstyle dansk is my absolute favorite. Don't worry - I'm currently hunting for a turquoise loaf pan or skillet, so I won't compete with you on the paella pan!

Oh, this hit home. I have my grandma's goldenrod enamelled pots and pans from the forties, and they are all I use. I love them so very much. Not quite as fancy as these, and I'm sure she'd be horrified by my lack of cooking, but I love them and use them all the time.

Loving these. Somehow it's just more fun to cook in a pretty pan, right?
