good show

thank you so much to everyone who turned out for the show! We had such a great turnout and it was wonderful to see everyone.

After encountering a couple problems and averting a couple nervous breakdowns, we finally got everything up and lit late Friday night. (I like to think that our friend Andy T was telling the story about how when we were almost done with the lighting, we screwed up, blew a fuse and had rearrange everything! He probably wasn't, but it still cracks me up.)

The space at D.I.P is great and Jeanette who owns the gallery could not have been more wonderful to work with.

Ever since college (actually even during college) I moved around, a lot, and made work about that nomadicity (not sure that's really a word). I made maps, used maps a to make portraits, etc. But we've lived in Ann Arbor for 4 years now, and have no plans to move in the near future so I've started to make work about staying put.

My piece, Yard Sale is made of porcelain and insulation foam and is 39"x 96" x 6". It's every flower I've planted in my yard, arranged in plan just how they are in my yard. I used a CNC router to map out my route from my house to the studio on the foam.

I priced all the flowers individually, (ranging from $8 to $200) because I wanted people to be able to pick the ones they wanted and take them home. The logistics didn't work out to do that at the opening, so I decided to do that at the closing (April 10th).

I really need to take some better photos (the flowers are not actually yellow)!

And when I do I'll take some better photos of the other work in the show, but here's a sneak peak (ignore how crappy the photos are, please.) This piece is by Becca Tufts.

Addie Langford.

ABIGAIL. This is incredible. I love the details and how you mapped out every flower you've planted and what it all means. It's gorgeous, really. Very talented you are:)

I didn't realize the flowers were for sale. I would totally have flown to Detroit and bought one. In a second.

Also, Depeche Mode concert in highschool? Your too cool for school Abigail, so jealous. I can't even imagine how amazing.

Congrats again on the show:)

Wow, I really like Yard Sale. I'm an art history major and I haven't studied anything like it. It's beautiful, but modern!

Abigail, your work is AMAZING. I love Yard Sale. And I'd try to buy it if I could convince my grad department to loan me more money. (Sadly, I'm attending a University of California school so they're broke.) You have the most amazing talent -- I had a feeling from all the little snippets you left us with that the final product would be amazing. And it is. Infinite praise.

Congrats on your show! Your work is just amazing. Loved reading the story behind the work and how you mapped out every flower. I also think it's wonderful that you decided to sell the flowers individually. Just like they grow, one by one!
