choke on it

Remember when I said I was growing artichokes on our roof deck?  Well, I haven't mentioned them again because I have been pretty disappointed.  It's not that they aren't growing well, or that they require too much attention (I have only watered them once!) it's just that after all the drama of the super tall corn I grew on the roof last year, the artichokes just seemed sort of puny and lame.

But all that changed today when I went out to check on them and found not one but two baby artichokes forming!  So to my artichoke plants I would like to say, "I am sorry I had so little faith in you.  Some plants just take longer to get going and I should have had more patience.  Now grow up big and tasty so I can eat you."

SO BEAUTIFUL!! I had no idea how they grew...but no wonder they are so pretty before we dig into them! Maybe they aren't supposed to bloom/really grow until late summer? Enjoy! Yum!

Artichokes are so expensive here, about $6 each, I wish I could grow a garden and have some because I miss them.

Ha, I had the very same reaction with my peppers- the plants were soooo tiny for soooo long and I thought I had done something wrong and just figured I wouldn't have any peppers, oh well. But now they're growing like weeds, I'm going to have too much!

oh I'm slightly jealous of this! I just ripped up half of my garden the other day because I couldn't get rid of the pests. :[

When you cook these pretty little things up, you should do a post on it. I've never cooked one before, and I want to!
