humor and heartbreak

About a month after Katrina hit New Orleans, photographer Richard Misrach began taking photographs of the devistated city.
There are no people in the photos, not a soul to be seen, but the graffiti they left behind is in every frame.

The Wicked Witch one is really funny. Again, sad but funny.

Great post - and on a related topic... You know how Brad Pitt has done so much to help rebuild that area? Well, when I was in Detroit recently I saw a hand written sign that read "you're on your own, Brad and Angie aren't coming here". It was so sad to see that sign, in such a devastated city. I cried.

This is an intersting project and you're right, it provokes both humor and heartbreak all at once.
