Uncanny Valley

Photographer Mr Toledano made this series of photographs to examine how if, with plastic surgery, "we are creating a new kind of beauty. An amalgam of surgery, art and popular culture? And if so, are the results the vanguard of human induced evolution?"

But I can't stop thinking of the "uncanny valley"- the theory that if a robots or animated characters look too close to human they become repulsive.

You're back! Yay!

I heard about uncanny valley. In fact, when Toy Story was first created test audiences didn't like it because they looked too lifelike. So they softened features to make them look more cartoonish. So interesting!

I don't know if it's just the lighting or what, but only the last image looks like she originally was a real, non-altered human. Are these wax figures? I mean, is it intentional that that question comes up?

I don't know if it's intentional, but it is inevitable...
I can't understand why a person would do this to themselves... especially the lips and boobs. I don't understand how that's comfortable.
