Beautiful, and kind of depressing,
Bill Rankin's map of Chicago shows the racial and ethnic divides in the city. Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, Orange is Hispanic, Gray is Other, and each dot is 25 people. Data from Census 2000.
Eric Fischer was so struck by the image, he made maps of other cities the same way. Check the rest out
here.

wow! those look great!
that's incredible. thanks so much for sharing.
How very beautiful, and sad at the same time. As much as we think America is a melting pot, it seems we still often separate into communities like this.
This is so interesting! I can't wait until the new census comes out and he does another one. This is why I love artists- they see the world so differently. Love it.
Ooh, I've seen these maps and they are just beautiful! Thanks for this lovely visual reminder today :)
I agree beautiful and sad at the same time....these are really amazing looking though.
I was born in Chicago and spent a large portion of my life there. It's interesting how a beautiful work of art can draw attention to a serious topic.
These are awesome and so beautiful. If it wasn't so much about the racial divide I would rush right out and buy some for our apartment. They're so stereotypically accurate too...
Absolutely incredible. I must have just stared at the map of SF for 10 minutes.
This is so beautiful, yet so thought provoking. Thank you for sharing with us!
