fried green tomatoes

Can you believe I'd never had fried green tomatoes until this past weekend when we went to a lovely farm to table restaurant called Knife and Fork in Spruce Pine, NC?  It's true!  And now thanks to that lovely restaurant I am going to try and make some fried green tomatoes with the buckets of them we have cluttering up our dining room.

Everything at Knife and Fork was great.  Most of the ingredients are locally sourced, seasonal and sustainable and all are supper yummy.  I had bite of the trout with breakfast radishes that Amanda ordered.  It was delicious and gave me another idea of what to do with the radishes that we'll have in next year's garden.

But my favorite thing we had was the giant apple fritter!  It was so crispy and delicious, but I really didn't think it was going to be possible for us to eat the whole thing.

But we did!

Fried green tomatoes are my favorite! Well, besides eating ripe tomatoes right of the vine like apples... and fresh tomato bruchetta... okay, so I just love tomatoes! But really, fried green tomatoes are really easy to make and are mouth watering-ly great.

You are completely a woman after my own heart. I would have ordered everything there. Well, maybe I would have ordered two fritters and not just one.

You've been missing out girl! Fried green tomatoes rule. Try topping them with roasted red pepper sauce or raspberry coulis... mouth watering right now.

Apple fritter? Yes please! And I pass green tomatoes every time I go to the food store. I've never had them or made them before so I'm a little nervous to try but I'm so curious. I might need to break out the oil soon.
