favorite food

When I was in junior high my dad had to go on a business trip to Paris for a 5 or 6 days and he decided to pull me out of school to go with him.
The thing I most remember from that trip was one dinner we had at a fancy restaurant. Actually, I remember just one course from that dinner.  I didn't eat meat then (still don't), and had no idea what the menu said so my dad just told them I was a vegetarian and to bring whatever they thought I would like.
The first thing that came was a plate full of sauteed morel mushrooms and bright green asparagus tips.  Needless to say, tween me was skeptical, morels did not look like things I was used to eating. But I tried them, and I loved them.  I loved them so much I wanted to tell the waiter that I didn't want whatever main course they had planned for me, I just wanted another plate of morels, but I was too embarrassed.

Every spring since I have looked forward to them coming in season, and they are in season now!  They even grow wild here in Michigan (image from the Boyne City Morel Mushroom Festival) and while I am way too chicken to go mushroom hunting, I'd sure love to have dinner with an expert mushroom hunter.
If only I knew one.

Morels are so delicious and decadent! I cooked them for the 1st time this spring and my boyfriend loved them. I've been hooked for years...just wish the season was longer and they were less expensive. :)
