magic bean!

Blogging is just about the last thing I should be doing right now as my in laws plane is about to land, but I'm so excited I can't wait.

I planted a fall crop of fava beans in August even though I wasn't sure that it would work. I hadn't been paying much attention to them, but today I was weeding a little bit and found our first beans! And there are tons more on the way.

Have you ever had a fresh fava beans? They are heavenly!

Now my in laws really won't notice the house is a disaster. (disaster is a slight exagerration. ok, a pretty big exagerration.)

Off to the airport!

I had fresh fava beans in a salad two summers ago in NYC, and I am still craving them! How lucky that you have them coming from your garden. Hope you are enjoying the in-laws visit (if they are still there!) xo

I just bought some fava beans, but I have no idea how to prepare them, they just seemed like a good idea. I'm on the look-out for a vegan recipe, any ideas?
Thanks.

oh, so many!
I'll send you links when I get home.
One of the easiest things to do is substitute fava beans for lima beans in succotash recipes. Or any recipe you love that has peas in it. I've made a fava bean puree that I LOVE! and I think I made it from a lima bean puree that I adapted.
Another good idea is this panzella recipe http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/spring-panzanella-recipe.html, but use favas instead of asparagus and peas.
