Ollie love

Our friend Lisa has a special relationship with Ollie.  When we walk down the street near her shop, Ollie starts crying to go see her because he loves her so much.  Since she feels pretty much the same way about him, and it was her birthday, I put the little guy on a tee shirt for her.

Isn't he cute?

baby g

Sorry to be so absent!  Gus had surgery to remove a benign tumor and dealing with his recovery has been a little more than I expected.

He's doing great and seems more bothered by the tee shirt he has to wear to protect his 25 stitches than anything else.

Ollie, on the other hand, is having a very hard time.  He's really upset and has been standing guard next to Gus and glaring at anything that moves as if to say, "I don't know what happened, but I don't like it.  And if anybody tries to mess with my big brother again, I'm gonna kick their ass."

dog show

I'm not allowed to watch the Westminster Dog Show anymore because the Pedigree Foundation commercials make me cry and threaten to turn me into a dog hoarder.  But I read this morning that the Cairn Terrier didn't win Best in Show and just wanted to say Gus and Ollie's people were robbed!

Look at all that ridiculous adorableness!

Oh well, good for the Scottish Deerhound.  Gus and Ollie are still Best in World.

happy dogs

It's not the Rio Grande, but this weekends walk on the Huron River made the dogs very happy.

pile up

Gus likes the pile of crap behind the garage.
I do not.

doggone

Our friend Andy sent me this, and since it's just about the best 7 minutes of video ever, I had to share.

the long and the short of it

While we were in North Carolina we went hiking on the Appalachian Trail!  (insert Mark Sanford joke here.)  We climbed "the balds" on Roan Mountain and it was gorgeous!

There's such a wonderful mix of landscapes.

You walk through shrubs and forests on your way,

up to the open rocky grasslands.

And do you see what I mean about the rhododendrons?!

As if that wasn't unfair enough, blueberries grow wild too!  Ridiculous.

Gus and Ollie had the time of their lives!

After a long walk on a long leash and short legs, Gus needed a long nap.

born in the wrong body

Apparently, Ollie believes that he is some sort of bird dog so he jumped in the river chasing ducks yesterday.

If he'd been on a longer leash, I think he could've caught one.

in hiding

Steven says he was chasing his ball but I think he was hiding from the giant squash.  Either way, Ollie ended up stuck under the flat file at the studio yesterday and we had to fish him out.

warning

Because of last night's frost warning, we picked most of the butternut squash.  Some of it is quite large, almost doggie size.

The squash is 8 pounds and Ollie just 17, which seems to make him nervous.

But it's the piles of other things that are giving me a(nother) panic attack.

new do

All summer long I thought that Gus and Ollie were getting older, more mature and a less active.  (which was a little ridiculous because Gus is only 4 and Ollie is just 2.)

But after we finally got them haircuts, I figured out they weren't maturing, they were just hot.

They're back to their active, crazy, and adorable selves.  (I thought they were pretty adorable with long hair too- but it's nice to see their sweet faces.)

bolted times 2

Remember when I said that when Steven's hair gets too long and goes crazy I like to say it has bolted like a plant going to seed?  Well, it's safe to say that Gus and Ollie's hair has bolted!!

I think Ollie can still see, but I'm not entirely sure.

I am sure that Gus is thinking, "look lady, I know I hate it but take me to the groomer!  it's hot!!"

summer lovin'

Ollie has decided that the windowsill in the sun room is a good place to hang out.

I think he thinks he's a cat. (and that he needs a haircut.)

downward dog

Dog vs. down comforter, dog wins.

He was so happy, all balled up and sleepy in the new bed he scratched out for himself we couldn't even be mad.

sidecar

Gus and Ollie won't ride around "Wizard of Oz" style in my bicycle basket.

But maybe they would ride around in a DIY bicycle sidecar!

I'd have to fashion some sort of doggie bike helmets though, safety first!

in hiding

Even though the plants have come up and flowers are blooming in them now, Gus still likes to hide in the planters around our back deck whenever I try and bring him inside.

what's up

I've been spending all my free time gardening these days. I guess that's what happens in spring time when you have a 1100 square foot vegetable garden and a 1/8th of an acre (or whatever a standard Ann Arbor lot is) flower garden.

But things are coming up in the vegetable plot, and the things are blooming in the yard! I love spring.

Have a good weekend!

finders keepers

Gus found the hammock.

so it goes

Where did the day go? I seem to have lost it, but had a wonderful time doing so. I weeded, planted and pruned in the garden all day.

I'll post some links later (I've got some good ones) but for now, here are some photos of some of the things that are blooming. Above, a redbud,

magnolia,

viburnum,

rhododendron,

double flower hellaborus,

dogwood (just starting to bloom),

and a planter full of Gus.
