tomato red

As you can see, the harvest is a bit overwhelming these days! (and this photo doesn't include the 12 cups of basil I turned into pesto or the 3 eggplants and bunch of celery I turned into caponata, among other things.)  We're over run with tomatillos, tomatoes, eggplants, edamame, and summer squash and pickling, canning, and freezing feels like almost like a full time job.

But it's a beautiful time of year, and everything is doing really well.  Even the cucumbers, which I was sure were goners a few weeks back.

Every time I look at my tomatoes I think it's hilarious that "tomato red" is a specific color.

Come to think of it, isn't "eggplant" a specific color too?

I am simultaneously jealous and also really relieved that I don't have to put up all that bounty! You must be spending all your time in the kitchen - but you'll reap the rewards in winter when the rest of us are stuck eating endless rounds of cabbage.

This may sounds really silly, but I think that the name nectarine is really presumptuous. I mean, nectar is like the best of the best, so who was to say that a nectarine was the best? Fruit naming is so weird to me in general.

Your table is the most beautiful thing in the world. As for "tomato red" and "eggplant"...I guess we can't help but be inspired by nature, and seeing your table, that's QUITE clear.
