the thonet chair no. 14 was launched in 1859. it was, and still is, made of 6 pieces of wood, held together by 10 srews and a couple nuts. Le Corbusier said, "Never was a better and more elegant design and more precisely crafted and practical item created."
I love the way they were packed.
Thonet innovated bent wood with their use of custom jigs. the jigs themselves are really beautiful.
