get bent

the thonet chair no. 14 was launched in 1859.  it was, and still is, made of 6 pieces of wood, held together by 10 srews and a couple nuts.  Le Corbusier said, "Never was a better and more elegant design and more precisely crafted and practical item created."
I love the way they were packed.

and stacked.

Thonet innovated bent wood with their use of custom jigs.  the jigs themselves are really beautiful.
